Highlights from our Opening Ceremony, 1 July 1999

The Scottish Parliament was re-established in 1999, marking a major milestone in Scotland’s modern political history. After nearly 300 years without its own legislature—since the Acts of Union 1707 merged the Scottish and English Parliaments—Scotland regained a devolved parliament with powers over many domestic issues.
