The Jacobite Risings Explained in 12 Minutes
The Jacobite Uprisings in Scotland were a series of rebellions and wars during the late 17th and 18th centuries, aimed at restoring the Stuart monarchy to the thrones of Scotland, England, and Ireland. The movement supported James II of England and VII of Scotland and his descendants—hence the name “Jacobite”, from Jacobus, the Latin form of James.
