Who was King James VI & I? Scotland's trailblazers, legends, creators and innovators
King James VI of Scotland (1567–1625) was a significant figure in both Scottish and English history. He was the son of Mary, Queen of Scots, and became King of Scotland at just 13 months old after his mother was forced to abdicate. Later, in 1603, he also became King James I of England and Ireland, uniting the crowns of Scotland and England in what became known as the Union of the Crowns.
